The First Full Moon of 2015 is Tonight
The January 2015 full moon presents the first full moon after the December 21 solstice. In North America, we often call this full moon the Wolf Moon, Old Moon or Moon After Yule. For the mainland United States, the full moon occurs this Sunday evening, on January 4, at 11:53 p.m. EST, 10:53 p.m. CST, 9:53 p.m. MST or 8:53 p.m. PST. The full moon is a beautiful target for photographers. The image above, shot by J Shimya, shows that with some effort much is possible: “You can’t stop or tame natures balancing act. I prepared for days to find the correct location to capture this image. I found a church parking lot with a view of Mt. Hood 63 miles to the East. As the sun went down the Moon came up on the North side of the Mountain but as it rose its’ curved path placed it right over the top, to capture this ‘’Over the top image.’’ Image credit: J Shimya Tap (c) for more.
